Evaluation of antifungal activity of essential oils of Eryngium campestre, Cuminum cyminum, Pimpinella affinis and Allium sativum on Fusarium solani isolated from ornamental aquarium fish

By increasing resistance of Fusarium species to antifungal drugs, using herbal plants with antifungal properties is necessary. In this study, antifungal effects of essential oils of Eryngium campestre, Cuminum cyminum, Pimpinella affinis and Allium sativum on Fusarium solani isolated from ornamental fish aquarium was investigated. Leaves of these plants, was dried and their essential oils was obtained by Clevenger apparatus. Serial dilutions of each oil was prepared at home 98 microplates. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and inhibition zone diameter were determined by dilution methods in liquid media and agar disk and minimum fungicidal concentration (MFC) was determined. The MFC of essential of E. campestre, P. affinis, C. cyminum and A. sativum were 0.12, 0.5, 0.5 and 0.06 (&mug/ml), respectively, MIFC of these essential was 0.5,> 1, 1 and 0.12 (&mug/ml) respectively, and diameter of zone of inhibition were 21.5±1.2 (mm), 18.0± 0.6,17.8 ± 0.7 and 25.2 ± 1.8 mm were, respectively, against F. solani. Results of present study demonstrated that the essential oils of E. campestre and A. sativum were appropriate antifungal agents against F. solani strains. As a result of this study using these herbal essential oils were suitable alternative than ketoconazole to treatmente infections caused by F. solani. |
