Iranian Barbus is a less known species whose number of species, subspecies, their hybrids and other forms of their populations are less known. For example, according to Bianco, 1995 Barbus miliaris Filippi, 1862 was caught in Tehran province and the specimen type was put in the Turin museum in Italy. However, during the years it's validity as a true Barbus species was put under questioned. In order to give validity to the present information on this species, samples of local fishes were caught mainly in western and central areas of Iran and were compared with the preserved specimens in the museum. To analyze the differences, PCA and DFA statistical procedures were performed. The differences is between the two groups are hidden in head length, dorsal, anal, pectoral fin length and other dissimilarities. Data analysis reconfirmed the validity of B. miliaris as a unique species. Despite this, the information about this species and the similar ones is not sufficient and it seems necessary to complete our knowledge by catching this fish in its habitats in Tehran |
